And Rangers, mainly! They can use it in PvE too ^^. Rest mostly only in PvP.

I wonder if this makes longbow bow + shield + warlord set viable with 5 +12% gems as well as a helmet and cloak fully stocked with 10 jewels of rage. Such a ranger could have up to +120% crit damage once every slot is opened and every gem is maxed out (5 12% rune gems and 10 6%/2% rage gems).

Actually it is worst than that. look at the exact wording. Increased Critical Damage by 12%.

So you take your base Crotical Damage, lets say 300%, and add 12% on top. or 60% in case of 5x12% gems. so it would make 300%+180%=480%

Not sure though if thats right or not. and not sure what would be used as a base critical dmg, the +part of thr whole number.

Whatever it is, those gems are OP. hope they revisit the values

Interesting if that's the mechanic.... cap is 400% (+300%), i believe.

This would be a de facto weakening of mech turrets for the pve game.

Cap is 500% (+400%). in other words 100+100 by default, and up to 300% with items.

Its less about dwarfs, and more about longbow rangers. they will really benefit from it.

And it will be also super useful. equip the quiver with those gems, and the shield with amethysts, swap as required. with 100% crit dmg crafted quiver, and 5x9% gems it is already (200%+100%)*1.45. just one(!!!) item and tons of crit and 235% crit damage.

Unless they messed the description, they are crazy.

Even as an absolute value, It is too much. relative 9/12/15 is just unbeliveable.

Hmm... I have this fantasy about a one handed spellweaver with a critical damage gold book. These might prove useful in this direction. Great job Bigpoint on encouraging one handed builds once again! :D

So it is confirmed. those gems work as a relative multiplier over the base critical damage. so if you have 1 of them (9%), and only base 200% critical damage that everyone has by default, you will get +18% critical dmg = 218% total.

Should you have 3 of them (and you will after the event), it would add 54% critical damage on top of base 200%.

Now imagine you have 5 of them, after 2 events. and imagine you crafted an offhand with 100% critical damage. fill it with 5 of those gems, and you total critical damage is... guess what? - 435% critical dmg. those gems are responsible for 135% critical damage.

But guess what, everyone has a couple of gems of rage. some have 5 of them and more.

Guess what is the critical damage with one single item (book or quiver with 100% crit dmg) and 5 gems of rage and 5 of those new ones (the lowest tier 9%)?
(200+100+25)*1.45= 471.25% critical damage. (500 being maximum possible)

    With one (!) item!

Not even saying that book oand quiver also carry tons of crit.

Dear Dev team, please stop adding ridiculous items into the game, we have plenty of them already. there is no need to mess with offhand at all. those gems are literally a game changer. and not the good one.

Well, if this adds diversity to builds I don't see a problem with that (I really don't care about PVP so I'm not even bothering about discussing balancing there). But if this really increases critical damage that much, it gives one-handed builds a fighting chance once again.
*Blowing the dust off golden line books in inventory* Time to resume crafting.

On a more serious note seb, I agree that gems shouldn't have such a huge impact on builds. But I can tell why they offered off-hand gems more powerful than usual: shift the pendulum in the direction of one-handed builds. And that is not necessarily a negative change (it's not like current two-handed builds do not retain their current power level by being debilitated in any way)

So I guess I should start crafting all damage left side items. Oh joy.

I was partly kidding mate :) We should probably wait first to see the final event. Being on the test server it is highly likely that the gems might still suffer some changes based on the feedback received.
On the other hand it's never a bad idea to have a backup one handed plan ;) Just in case. You never know what level 55 or future sets/uniques might bring. (when at some point it will appear)

Correct and incorrect in same time. Your wording is incorrect.
By default everyone has +100,00% (the max. value is +400%) ... that is x2.00(multiplier). In your example if you add one gem of 9% to a default crit damage ... that is 2.00+9%=2,18 or +118.00%
If I take my example picture in this post

and add 3x9% gems ... the outcome would be ... 3.58+27%= x4.55(4.5466 multiplier) or +354,66%.

Well these gems are suiting well to my build ... since I am using double RoDs and full crit hit quiver (with goal to add +52 damage in the last line)... you were all rushing into crafting as soon as posible ... my patience saved me alot of resources and items XD

Doesn't take nearly as long to find +dmg enchantments than it does % crit damage in my experience :p.

Its not patience, Traki, its laziness :)

Whatever the wording or semantics is, important is how it works. I dont like that + notation. nevertheless, the base damage is also included in the gem multiplication.

So you are the lucky winner of the change. Followed by other archers.

Guess its time start crying about real 2handed weapon for rangers, semitwohanded weapons for other classes :)

The weirdest thing is that they change the whole landscape of character setup in one dumb change. and every effort some put into building their chars becomes obsolete in a minute.

Whatever their final release forms, and the OP-ness RA's get from them (also those OP 1H SWs and DKs)... My tier 2 Wolf Slayer shield, which is mostly unused (maybe I'll use it more often after I get the Warlord Regalia) since I play 2H, would love to become a gem holder just for them.
