For starters, here is a quote where I first started thinking about this.
We all know that if you take a DK and a SM with the same DPS, the SM will do tons more damage than the DK, so I was thinking to myself that there has to be a better way of measuring total damage output over a set length of time, like 10 seconds or 60 second or both. The problem is simplifying this to the point where is is usable for most players. I could take a specific set of stats and a specific set of moves and come up with a number, but there needs to be a more efficient way to do this, so I'm looking for ideas before starting to build a spreadsheet for this. Here is what I mean.

With a DK, in the 10 second catagory, it would look something like this:
Assuming the DK starts with at least 60 rage from monsters hitting or from jump/battle cry, and assuming about 1.2 attack speed and the attack speed buff from Banner and Smash:

    1. Banner of War with burn (30% per second, 300% total) [0.0s-0.5]
    2. Dragon Fury (150% per second, 600% total) [0.5s-1.5s]
    3. Smash x4 (240% each, 960% total) [1.5s-5.0s]
    4. Dragon Fury (150% per second, 600% total) [5.0s-6.0s]
    5. Smash x5 (240% per second, 1200% total) [6.0s-10.0]

This totals 3660%, or 36.6x the Damage Per Hit (DPH) which is just the DPS decided by the speed since we took the speed into account when planning the combo to use. In my case, this comes out to about 10,860 DPH. This means, with greens, I could put out about 397,476 damage over a 10 second burst damage. Of course it wouldn't be sustainable for 60 seconds since the cool down of Banner of War is 60 seconds and then rage wouldn't be a given. Also, a DK would likely need to factor in at least 1 spin every 5-10 seconds to keep their HP up, but you get the idea.

And in case you think that this is a lot... here is a very rough number for SMs
In the past, I've also thought through this for SMs and they can do a sustained damage output of 685.5% of their base per second which comes out to about 6855% of their base damage over 10 seconds, and that is before factoring in quick shot or shrapnel shot. When you look at it like this, it is easy to see why SMs are so powerful. If a SM has about 5000-7000 damage (there are dwarfes with much higher than this), this is over 411k, and this is before accounting for the effect of attack speed on the machine gun.

So, please make some suggestions for good 10 second and 60 second combos and I'll be thinking about how I can generalize this into a spreadsheet to calculate average damage output.

Even after banner of war DK has max rage left, and with the 40 rage you get from the Iron Brow attack you can still keep dealing smash attacks after it ends so consider it as well. If I had to make combos for a class for example DK I would go for something like this:

Furious Battle Cry - Banner Of War - Fury of the Dragon - Smash.
FOTD will end after 4 sec so you will need to use it for 3 times. Depends on the speed you need to check how many attacks can you do while it is active and after it ends but with the extra rage you have left. If you are left with max you could use Iron Brow + Rage Jump to get even more so you will be able to do even more dmg.

Now for using a 60 sec combo without any breaks is not going to be that easy. You could add basic attacks to gain rage but that is low dmg so you will need to think about something. Ima probably think about it and come later with an answer.

Edit: You need to consider the max amount of Rage/Mana/Steam/Concentration possible to have as well.

Now SM is a bit of a problem since most use the machine gun and tesla is also has some other nice skills to use like Sharpnel Shot, Steam Conducter, Heavy Shot, C14 Micro-Rocket. To consider a good amount of combo for it I need to know the max possible amount of steam he could have. My SM isnt strong enough for that.

Now you start to see the complexity of this problem.

I should probably also clarify that this ought to be against a point target like a boss since this is where this metric is the most useful. Outside of a boss, things get ridiculously complicated. For example, how many monsters get hit with AoE skills and does that raise the total damage done? For example, a destruction beam could do 750% damage, and if it hits 15 monsters, that is 11250% of their base damage off the start. So, for this reason, lets restrict it to boss combos. This also eliminates another complication, namely armor breaks.

I thought it was obvious we were talking about bosses.

    I have a question...
For example... You put two FotD, one on the left one and on the right of any monster... does each of it make damage, or is it merged/nullified into one?
I can't really tell, but sometimes it seems that it does and sometimes that it doesn't, so, could someone clarify this for me?

Well I am not 100% sure but when I used it, it only counted as one not 2 but let me check it for you and be back with an edit in 5 minutes.

EDIT: After testing it seems like only 1 of them will deal dmg while the other wont do anything so no it isnt possible to use 2.

Note - Bargain about the combos you should also consider where is the best place to put the talent points if it is only boss fighting.

    Yep... Complicated, isn't it.

I know... which is why I always laugh when I see people do banner of war and then do nothing but Dragon fury for 10 seconds straight... Noobs.

o_O I usually do a 3 output combo where I use poison + FotD + Smash to deal 3 different outputs of dmg at the same time. Also something to consider when thinking of max dps.

I know it will make it a bit more complicated but should you consider essence cost aswell so we could see damage per hit per resource point per essence.

and if a dk uses the iron brow with no time to reactivate it? or the third talent of the base skill (i don't remember the name) that can reduce the times of waiting for the skill?

It's even more complicated than you think it is. For example you should take in account that the firepower of SMs and SWs is multiplied by the number of mobs hit by their attacks (red turret for SMs and 10 mana regen on ice sphere for SWs).

We are talking about boss fighting as of right now. So it is 1 mob.

As of right now lets start by using green ess/not using ess before we calculate it as well.

    Oh okay.
Well let's propose a combo for the mages, mainly using the 5 point skills of mind control, vortex and teleportation, 3 and 5 point skills of ice sphere and 2 and 5 point skills of guardian.
It can be executed with a mana pool of 125 (either the 10 point skill from wisdom tree or Dragan set).
Guardian/2 ice spheres (remaining mana : 57)/mind control-use vortex on self-teleportation in the vortex (RM : 125)/3 ice spheres-teleportation-3 ice spheres/waiting for teleportation cd to be over (it's fast because of the vortex), then 3 ice spheres/10 seconds are over

total dps : 1 guardian + 11 ice spheres for a total of 4202%+ *this guy doesn't know the total damage of the fire guardian*

The avantage of this combo is that it can be executed soon after the disappearance of the vortex, because the cooldown of the vortex is cancelled by the mind control and the cooldown of the mind control and guardian is cancelled by the vortex :p

Nice, But is it possible to get even better? for example more mana? And also thing about a 60 sec combo.

I have 250+ Mana, I'll try to check how many of these combos fit into 60 secs later when I get to play.

I thought the goal was to start simple with one boss. Why would you use Mind Control on, say, Balor? He isn't going to fight himself (although that might be dang interesting if possible!). :D

Simple... the cool down reduction skill. If you use MC/Singularity (on yourself) then you have seriously reduced cool downs and you are actually able to use those two skills indefinitely. This allows you to have 2-3 Destructions per min.

Ah! I never thought of using it on myself. I just assumed that wouldn't work. Gonna have to go try that!!
