to all DK's, are you able to play decently with the new attack animation ?

Well, I don't. Since R138 DK's swings randomly left or right. It's not only looking weird and in real life not possible at all, but more important it also throws my timing off.

Anyone having the same problems ?

to the devs : please fix this new animation, delete it completely or make it optional

I like the Angry Strike, which is the one I use. I'm guessing you don't like Rageful Swing?

I would prefer that they just leave Angry Strike the way it is now. It looks pretty good. As far as Rageful Swing, I haven't seen it yet but I have seen a few complaints elsewhere.

can't imagine a DK is using angry strike in PvE ;) But indeed, my complain is about rageful swing. you can just put it on to test it .. see for yourself (will do the same with the angry strike)

    --

edit : indeed angry strike doesn't bother me that much. But this is because it is a different attack. Angry strike targets only 1 mob, while rageful swing strike multiple targets. To get the most targets hit, you need to position correctly.

I get the impression that the new animation also hits different zones when the attack shifts from left to right.

There's no reason for me to use Rageful Swing in PvE. I don't pay for premium (never have). My armor and block rate are so high that the reduced damage from enemies doesn't matter to me. Large groups of mobs can surround me... and it just tickles a little bit ;) Most of my damage to groups is done with Dragon Fury and Smashes. Angry Strike, and getting hit by mobs, builds plenty of rage for using those group-damaging skills (especially with the attack speed talent for Angry Strike).

I don't want to pay 100 ander just to see the attack animation. I'll take your word for it that it looks bad, and I'll see it later on another DK when I group with one :D

Good luck getting the Rageful Swing animation fixed, at some point, hopefully. We know how these things go: slowly.

    Hi everyone,

Checking out some of the new features and the new animations for rageful swing looks like a backhand swing used in tennis. I don't know much about sword fighting, but who is to dispute the techniques of great films?

You can still select new skills without changing your talent tree. ;) But here it is for everyone's reference.

question is, are the same hitboxes stroken with left annd right rageful swing ? Personally I don't think so.

It's haard to see in your vid. But I think that with the left stroke the animation is shifted a little to the left (striking 1 bow left more).

I've just recorded my DK using rageful swing, and both animation have exactly the same duration, so there's no timing problem.
In my opinion skills works exactly the same regardless of the animation choses; in this case it's just a very simple mathematical model based on angle and radius.
The only problem being that this movement looks really weird...

EDIT : Just looked at Harquina's video; 2H animation looks quite good.

New "Rageful swing" animation looks awful - awkward and unnatural. While I understand that DSO characters are not supposed to look fully life-like, this is definitely a change for worse. Much worse.

Not only it looks worse, it's harder to position character correctly against mobs and find good timing with other skills - and these are quite important things while tanking (and tanking is what DKs are supposed to do in players team, I think). Ranged characters don't face such "additional challenges", so this is another problem for DK's players - hardly the favored class anyway.

So please, DSO team, I join the petition: restore the old animation!

I bet that the hit boxes are the same because it is probably more effort than the Devs felt like putting in when they changed the animation... this is easy enough to test though... get a large enough mob and just keep swinging and watch who gets hit.

Ah, right, thanks for reminding me. It's been so long since I changed anything, I forgot you can just swap skills ;)

From watching your video, it looks to me like the animation "arc" looks different - starts in a different place on the two attack animations - but that's just a visual effect. That may have nothing to do with the actual area the skill affects on each animation type. It could be hitting the same area on the reverse as on the forward.

Yeah, it could be hitting the exact same region of space on both animations even though they appear, visually, to be different. As you said, it's pretty easy to test. The best thing would be to remove damaging gear and go defensive, so you don't kill the mobs too fast and you can get a good look at what's happening. I don't have much time today, but if I get a chance I'll try it.

Just pull off you sword and it is easy to test... and when it comes to defensive, I'm practically invincible in most normal maps.

Same here. I have less armor and block amount - with more crit rate and crit damage - but plenty enough defense for this test. I'm about to go do it now. I'll get myself surrounded 360° so I can make a good judgement. Will report back to this thread when finished.

Edit: I did the experiment. I changed Angry Strike to Rageful Swing on my skill bar, put my sword in my backpack, and entered the event map.

I got myself surrounded 360° about 5 different times. It didn't seem to matter whether I swung forward or backward: it looked like I was hitting the same mobs either way. From what I could see, both animations affect the same 'arc' of hitboxes... but the visual part of the attack was different - started and ended in different places, even though it hit the same monsters - which is probably throwing people off a bit... especially when players are used to seeing the same arc every time.

As far as the aesthetics, I guess that's a personal choice. Looking at it up close, it didn't look that bad to me, but I am using Angry Strike exclusively so maybe I'm not the best judge of what looks good on this attack-type.

I personally like the new animation. Its interesting that you feel that it puts your timing off. Why? And how?
And why do you say its not possible to do this in real life? Its just swinging in the other direction with the sword.
After swinging one way, its more natural to swing in the opposite direction... rather than to bring it back, and yet again swing in the same direction as before

I favor the DK class and have a bunch of them. I have tested this pretty extensively by now. I can find nothing that has changed in the effect of the attack.

As for the aesthetics the new animation is a good improvement. In my youth, many decades ago, I spent several years with the SCA. (those folks who show up at Ren-Faires in medieval panoply.) This is more realistic looking sine any attack is always followed by an attack from a different direction or a parry (or death if the opponent is better :p)

    Luck be with ye,

Well that I could understand, but this isn't the case now. He swings 2 times left, then 3 times right, 1 left, .... It's not left - right - left - right - ...

Anyway made a little vid to show the effect. Pay attention to the pumpkin knight. He's is the last being hit, regardless of a left or right swing. So I think the same hitboxes are being hit

The animations do appear to start and end in different places, visually, but it doesn't seem to affect what mobs are hit. That's what my testing revealed to me, too.

Haven't found any problems with DK attack or speed associated with it. As far as I am concerned the new animations are fine.
